Kaleidotoos
The Tattoo is an art form in constant change. The Tattoo is subject to change over time from sun exposure, skin growth, and the addition of more tattoos. Documenting tattoos presents its own set of challenges. The human body has curves and the placement of tattoos can make viewing the entire image impossible for the camera. Additionally when the person moves their skin stretches and tattoo image becomes distorted.
By using a digital camera and kaleidoscope, the tattoo is removed from the human body, visually fractured and multiplied to create new vistas for the viewer to explore. Instead of viewing the tattoo in its original context, we can now look at the image and see the way the lines flow, how the colors play with each other, and the new shapes and forms that are created. We are left wondering what these images could be. I call these images Kaleidotoos
